Rapid Eye |
Rapid Eye addresses applications that require information about an incident or event in a timely fashion as the resulting actions may effect the final outcome of the incident. The timeliness of the information and a resulting assessment, is dependent on the type of application (certain events require a quicker response than others).
Whether security or general business operations related, Rapid Eye provides timely detailed information allowing users to make informed security and business management decisions.
False alarms plague the security industry with often more than 90% of alarm activation’s considered false – not requiring an emergency response (dispatch).
The ability to determine what caused an alarm before taking responsive action is needed. With enough timely information, more informed decisions are made and false alarm fines and false dispatches are reduced.
Most residential alarm verification today is achieved by way of a telephone call to the site. If no one answers or those that do, do not have the correct password, a dispatch is made (typically the police).
Another form of alarm verification involves the dispatch of a guard to physically go on-site and assess the situation prior to emergency personnel such as the police, being dispatched. This method is costly, time consuming and potentially dangerous as the guard does not know what he/ she is ‘walking’ into, and is sometimes not trained for the ensuing emergency situation.
Rapid Eye allows alarms to be visually verified before taking appropriate action. With both recorded video (leading up to the alarm activation) and ‘live’ video from the site, monitoring staff can determine what type of response is required (e.g. call the site, dispatch a guard, dispatch the police, dispatch firefighters, etc.)
This application is a proactive extension of alarm verification. Once it has been determined that an immediate response is required to diffuse a situation, trained specialist interact with the subject(s). Their goal is usually to deter further undesirable action(s) and/ or ‘buy time’ until the situation can be contained and controlled.
A simple but effective form of crisis intervention/ prevention could take the form of a general security announcement into a store once suspicious characters are detected. A store clerk, feeling uncomfortable or uncertain about potential shoplifters could press a ‘caution’ button that would establish a video and audio link with a security-monitoring center. The center could then intern make an announcement that the store is being monitored and all activity video recorded. This is often enough to deter would-be shoplifters.
A more extreme form could take the place of form of the initial contact with a hostage taker.
Note: Crisis Intervention/ Prevention requires trained (sensitivity) specialists.
When used for remote guard touring, Rapid Eye augments or even eliminates physical guard tours. More sites, over greater distances can be ‘electronically’ toured more safely, efficiently and economically.
This form of guard touring is often more cost effective, as fewer staff is required. Guards or emergency personnel such as police are dispatched only when needed.
This form of touring can be safer. Those that are dispatched can be informed in detail about the site situation (e.g. What is taking place, who is involved, if anyone injured, and whether there any weapons involved). Armed with this information, an appropriate response can be made.
As a remote monitoring/ business management tool, sites may be monitored for a variety of reasons.
Banks use Rapid Eye to monitor and evict ‘undesirables’ from their ATM lobbies – often not for safety reasons, but because these undesirables deter ATM usage.
Retail loss prevention managers monitor stores for shoplifting and employee theft. Other managers are interested in customer buying habits, employee work habits, general store conditions, and the proper placement of marketing displays.
